RAKU ART---Gifts, Accessories, Ceramics, Fine Art, and Home Accents.
Mayco Colors was at the NCECA show recently and used some of my work in their display. I was honored to show how I use Mayco Colors in my raku work in combination with my Copper Matte raku glaze. For anyone out there looking for a mirror-like metallic surface for their raku try the Mystic Jade with or without the crystal chunks. Three good coats and into the kiln. It is so easy, it is almost fool proof. When the glaze is mutured and ready to pull be sure to let it cool slightly in the air before going into the can. It is a gloss glaze and the surface is molten glass, so it will scare if you touch the paper in the can too soon. By popping the lid (to allow air in) you can get a range of wonderful colors. I have used many Mayco Colors in combination with my raku copper matte glaze over the last 15 years to get unique raku textures and surfaces. The colors are outstanding and trying new glazes is always fun. The great thing about raku is there are no rules and the more you try the more you learn.
